Data systems company, Quantitative Engineering Design (QED), has said that its geo-spatial intelligence mapping project can help to reduce the farmers/herders conflict in Nigeria.
Space in Africa reports that co-founder of QED, Dr William Wu, gave the assurance during a one-week webinar organised by the Federal Government in partnership with the World Bank.
The webinar was tagged, “Nigeria Space Program: Earth Observation for Public Good.”
Speaking during his presentation, Wu explained that artificial intelligence and satellite imagery could be deployed to understand land-use at both regional and national levels.
He added that data gathered by the firm are also important for mapping croplands and to understand the farming patterns in the country.
Wu, however, said that the company was still in the process of gathering enough data to enable seamless functioning.
He also reiterated the importance of data systems in solving complex problems in the agricultural and health industry.
According to him, the technology could aid stakeholders in locating herders settlements so as to drive a cordial relationship between farmers and herders.
Wu, meanwhile, extended appreciation to the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development for its support.
The QED founder also acknowledged the International Institute of Tropical Agriculture (IITA) for its help in gathering data.
