The Poultry Farmers Association (PAN), Lagos State chapter, says it is planning big for this year’s World Egg Day celebration on October 9.

Public Relations Officer of PAN, Mrs. Abimbola Layo-Ogunyale, made this known in a press statement.

Layo-Ogunyale noted that the nutritional value of eggs to human health made the animal product worth celebrating.

She disclosed that PAN would organise a series of campaigns to inform the public on the importance of eating at least one egg per day.

The association would also work to make sure that eggs are available to Lagosians and Nigerians generally, she assured.

“Eggs are a very good source of inexpensive, high-quality protein. More than half the protein of an egg is found in the egg white which also includes vitamin B2 and lower amounts of fat than the yolk.

“Eggs are rich sources of selenium, vitamins D, B6, B12 and minerals such as zinc, iron and copper.

“Considering the aforementioned, Lagos PAN would do everything possible to ensure that the general public understands the importance of taking egg at least one per day through a series of campaign.

“PAN would also try as much as possible, no matter how seemingly impossible, to make eggs available to the people of Lagos State and Nigeria as a whole,” the statement read.

The International Egg Commission (IEC), an international membership organisation dedicated to the global egg industry, established the World Egg Day in 1996 at a conference in Vienna, Austria.

IEC during the conference had settled for the second Friday of October each year to celebrate the day.
