The Federal Government has commissioned a Mini Water Treatment Plant at Gezawa and Wudil communities of Kano State to aid farmers with adequate irrigation during this year’s planting season.
The completed project was unveiled by the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (FMARD), this week.
FMARD Minister, Alhaji Sabo Nanono during the handover ceremony to leaders of the communities, said that the development was initiated to supply clean and portable water for domestic and farming purposes.

Nanono, citing irrigation as a key part of agriculture, said that adequate water supply was needed for crop and animal production in order to meet local and international demands.
The Minister who was represented by the Northwest Regional Director, FMARD, Engr. Mathew Olusegun Owolabi, restated the commitment of President Buhari on agricultural development.
He charged the state, local governments, and the emirate to team up and ensure proper handling, security, and maintenance of the donated water treatment plant.

“Ladies and gentlemen, you may be aware of the present administration resolve to revitalize and reinvigorate the agricultural sector through various reforms and policies aimed at the rapid transformation in food and nutritional security, job creation, import-substitution, and economic diversification
“This government is fully committed to this noble cause by committing huge amounts of funds and enabling environment for effective private sector participation, collaborations with State governments, and donor funding agencies,” Nanono said.
On his part, Kano State Director, FMARD, Abba Gana Yamani lauded the community leaders for their tireless support toward the projects, while urging the locals to embrace and utilise the plant effectively.

The communities heads, while extending their appreciation to the government, said the project will elevate the villagers and abet farming activities.
Present at the launch were representatives of Kano State Deputy Governor and Commissioner of Agriculture and Natural Resources, Honourable Chairmen of Gezawa and Wudil, Districts, village heads, among others.
